Who is at Risk for Developing High Blood Pressure?

There are a large number of reasons why an individual may develop a high blood pressure problem. Although it is possible for just about anyone to develop high blood pressure there are certain individuals who have an increased risk.

It has been determined that the risk of high blood pressure increases with age in all individuals; however, African Americans run a higher risk of developing high blood pressure at just about any stage in their life. It is still scientifically unknown what increases the risk of an African American among other races. African American individuals are also likely to have more severe cases of high blood pressure with the increased risk of more damage occurring if it goes untreated.

Individuals with a family history of high blood pressure are also more likely to develop a blood pressure problem of their own. There are a large number of health problems that are known to be passed on to multiple family members through genes and blood pressure is a common health problem that is. Scientists and healthcare professional are currently trying understand and develop ways to reduce the likely of blood pressure occurring in multiple family members.

A person is unable to control their race or their family history; however, there are a number of other individuals who are at risk for high blood pressure and it is possible for their risk to be reduced. Exercise is not only used to help someone stay healthy and fit, but it is also known to help improve or keep blood flowing throughout the body. High blood pressure can reduce the amount of blood that is successfully able to flow through blood vessels or arteries. Even a small amount of exercise, such as walking, is able to increase blood flow and reduce high blood pressure.

Other individuals who have an increased risk of developing a serious high blood pressure problem are those who are overweight or obese. Although a large number obese individuals have spent their whole life that way there is still time to lose weight. It is apparent that a large number of people struggle with losing weight; however, even a little bit of weight loss is proven to help lower blood pressure. Simply eating a healthy diet and combining the above mentioned exercise is likely to help remove the target from someone’s back.

Although high blood pressure is currently treatable and manageable there are still a number of things that healthcare professionals do not know about high blood pressure. As scientists and healthcare professionals work together everyday to study and develop new cures and treatments for many health problems, including high blood pressure, it is apparent that help is on the way.
