Restrictive Weight Loss Surgery
One popular method of weight loss surgery is restrictive. Many people know this type of surgery as stomach staple surgery. With this type of weight loss surgery a small pouch is created usually at the top portion of your stomach with staples.
However, today there are new advances that have been made and this pouch is formed without the use of staples and many types the patient does not even have to be opened to perform the procedure. You can however, choose the staples if you prefer.
The new technology in restrictive weight loss surgery is known as lap band surgery. This type of surgery is becoming very popular, as it is not as invasive, is more effective and gives a bit more freedom in that is can be adjusted. With this type of restrictive weight loss surgery a small pouch is created in the upper portion of the stomach using either a lap band or a plastic band. When this procedure is done, a small pad is placed under the skin. The pad is connected by a very small tube to the band that is around the upper portion of the stomach. A salt solution or saline can be injected into this pad at anytime when the band needs re-adjusted. If a person is not feeling as full as they should, then the saline can be injected causing the band to become tighter. As the band is tightened, it will take longer for the food to move through the band and into the remainder of the stomach causing the patient to feel full longer.
When you first have this type of restrictive weight loss surgery, you will only be able to consume about 1 ounce of liquids. The pouch will stretch allowing you to consume around 2 to 3 ounces after awhile. |
