Just because you are a bit overweight does not mean that you will pass the guidelines to have mini gastric bypass surgery. You must meet a certain criteria before your physician will refer you to a gastric bypass surgeon.
The criteria for a candidate, for mini gastric bypass surgery are as follows:
Between the ages of 16 and 55
A body mass index of 40 or above
A body mass index of 30 or higher with obese health related issues
A body weight of over 350 pounds
Usually the patient must be active such as working, going to school etc.
No history of prior weight loss surgery
No history of any abdominal surgery
No history of drug use
No history of alcohol abuse
Must have documented proof of support from family members
Must have a personal physician
No history of psychiatric illness
No history of prednisone therapy
No history of systemic lupus erythematosis
No history of Rheumatoid Arthritis
No history of collagen vascular disease
Documented agreement to follow up to decrease risks of vitamin deficiencies, mineral deficiencies, ulcers and other nutritional deficiencies
Must have tried all other methods of weight loss including medications and exercise programs without success
Other health related illnesses or problems brought on by the weight gain.
