What Is Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery?
Mini Gastric Bypass surgery is a weight loss surgery procedure that is quick, simple and aids in shedding those unwanted and dangerous pounds. It is similar to other gastric bypass surgeries in that a portion of the stomach is stapled so it is not used and a portion of the small intestines is bypassed.
The difference with the mini gastric bypass is that the stomach will not really have a smaller pouch; instead, the stomach will be a long narrow tube that will be attached to the small intestine. The bigger portion of the stomach will be sealed and left unattached. The smaller tube like stomach will decrease the amount of food you can hold in your stomach.
A portion of the small intestine is bypassed with the mini gastric bypass surgery as well. This is so your body will not absorb all the fat and calories. Because of this, you will need to supplement your body with vitamins and minerals that your body still needs but is not receiving because of the bypass.
Statistics show that on average for a person weighing 300 pounds or more has successfully lost around 140 pounds in the first year after mini gastric bypass surgery. Not everyone is a candidate for mini gastric bypass. You must have a body mass index of 40 or greater or have an obese related health condition with a body mass index of 30 or more. These types of surgeries are not for people that are just over weight.
Mini Gastric Bypass surgery is for people that have exhausted all other weight loss methods and are at risk of other health problems due to their weight. |
