Diet After Lap Band Gastric Banding?

Normally your physician will give you a clear liquid diet directly after lap band gastric banding surgery. For all three meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner you will be allowed to have one third cup of clear Jell-O, one third cup of clear juice and one third cup of broth. Do not worry, if you cannot consume your entire meal. Normally most patients can only get down around two teaspoons of each. However, do eat until you are full.

You will also be allowed between meal snacks that are clear liquids as well. If your body does well on the clear liquid diet, you will be able to advance to pureed foods. The pureed foods will include such items as hot cereal, soft egg, skim milk, pureed vegetables, pureed meat and possibly blended casseroles, pureed fruit, custard, and of course salt and pepper or margarine for taste. Between meals, you can have a snack such as low fat or skim milk, or even a low calorie drink.

Protein is very important after lap band gastric banding and should be eaten at all three meals as well as milk. You should eat 56 grams of protein per day for men and 46 grams of protein per day for women and both should drink 1 to 2 cups of milk between meals each day.

After lap band gastric banding most patients are not able to consume this much protein in the beginning, but it is recommended that each patient should eat at least 25 to 30 grams of protein every day.
