Digestive Aid for Lactose Intolerance

Lactose intolerance, especially severe lactose intolerance, can be a real nuisance and bother to a person's life. If only there were a way to control lactose intolerance, life could be made so much better. Well, there is some good news for you; there are ways in which you can manage your lactose intolerance, so read on.

Since the problem of lactose intolerance stems from insufficient lactase production within the small intestine, each way of controlling lactose intolerance is based upon this principle.

The first is to cut as much lactose out of your diet as is possible. Obviously, the more you suffer with lactose intolerance, the lower amounts of lactose you consume, the better you will feel. Making changes to your diet such as substituting regular milk for a lactose free variety or soy milk is a great start, since milk consumption is usually the largest contributor to lactose intolerance symptoms.

The second way is using a digestive aid for lactose intolerance control. So what is a digestive aid, and where can you get one?

Well, you will need more than one to start with. A digestive aid comes in two main forms. One is lactase pills, or chews which you take before each time you are about to consume lactose. They trigger lactase production within the small intestine therefore temporarily boosting your lactose tolerance. Of course, these pills will only work if you take them every time you consume lactose. You must therefore, be aware which foods contain lactose so you don't find yourself only taking pills for half of the amount of lactose you consume, whilst the remaining half you are totally unaware of, as this would defeat the object and symptoms would persist.

Another form of digestive aid for lactose intolerance is liquid lactase drops which are mixed in with regular milk, and work in the same way as the pills do.
