Gastric Bypass Information

When you begin to get to your new gastric diet, you will learn new eating habits. With this habit, you will not only lose the weight but also be able to maintain your weight goal. Gastric bypass diets include such foods as ones that are high in protein, low in fat, low in fiber, have low calories and are low in sugar. You will however, have to supplement your diet with certain vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that are not absorbed into your body since a portion of your small intestines is being bypassed.

Protein is the most important nutrient that you body needs in the gastric bypass diet. Proteins aid your body in healing wounds or let's say the incisions from the bypass surgery. Protein will also aid in preserving your muscle tissue. Foods that should be included in your gastric bypass diet include lean red meat, chicken, pork, or turkey all without skin. Fish, cottage cheese and eggs are also high in protein but are low in fat.

Some items you should stay away from on your gastric bypass diet include foods that are sugary like cookies, candy, milkshakes, colas, and almost all desserts. These sugary type foods can make it hard to lose weight and can cause what is called dumping.
