Slimming and Detox Benefits of Body Wraps

Slimming and Detox Benefits of Body Wraps

The application of substances over the body comes with a history. In the past, pampering oneself with a body wrap was for the sole purpose of therapy and hygiene. Herbal mixes were often used to treat skin infections while clay and mud were the common ingredients used to eliminate toxins from the body. Today, however, more functions are sprouting behind the principle of using body masks. Many wellness centers claim that their body wrap packages include not only detoxification as the benefit but also slimming and cellulite treatment.

For detoxification, components most often used are algae, mud, seaweed or clay. These are elements that stimulate metabolism in order for toxins and excess fluids to mobilize out of the body by way of sweating. During the process, skin pores open up to facilitate better flow of substances from the skin for elimination. Since the skin is the largest organ there is, purifying it promotes relaxation and enhances one’s sense of well-being, and leaves the skin soft, smooth, and well-moisturized.

Cellulite reduction is another common reason why body wrap services are growing more popular these days. Perhaps the greatest benefit of this kind of spa package is the immediate diminishing of visible cellulite. In order to treat cellulite, blood flow and lymphatic flow has to be stimulated to help drain the fatty elements, which are the culprits of the unwanted blebs that drag one’s self-esteem down to the drain. With the ingredients used coupled with the heating effect of the wrap, the skin is left firm and tight with less visible cellulite. This, however, is a temporary effect that lasts for one day or maybe two. Nevertheless, if your goal is to mask off the cellulite from your thighs so that you can dawn your bikini with confidence for a weekend getaway, a body wrap should do the trick.

Slimming is also a temporary benefit of a body wrap. This result has something to do with metabolic stimulation and with the heat generated because of enclosing the body in a mask. Because excess fluids are reduced, the greater part that is being shed off as a result of the wrap is water weight, which is normally one of the most ignored factors in the arena of weight reduction. If you need an immediate short-term fix just to fit in a gown that was tailor-made for you when your waist was an inch or two smaller, you might want to consider a trip to the spa for a body wrap.

A body wrap, which may also be referred to as a body mask or a body cocoon, is a staple service available in spa facilities. Usually, the session is initiated with the application of oils, lotions, creams, or other ingredients depending on the purpose of the wrap followed by the part where the body is covered for purposes of insulation with materials made of plastic or polyester. Other spa centers may also utilize sheets or towels.

If you have doubts with how body wraps can help you shed those inches, check out the rest of Sara’s story here. She’s making a video blog about her experience with home body wrap kits, and details the total inches lost for each wrap (brave girl!)

Most people believe in the results of a spa body wrap, but not everyone can afford it. One session average cost is around $80 to $300 depending on the specifics of the mask to be applied. On the bright side, Wrap Yourself Slim have developed home kits so you can enjoy the benefits of a body wrap at a much lower cost in the comfort of your own home.

Another good way to save some cash while experiencing the perks of a body mask is to gather your own ingredients and materials without buying a home wrap kit, which you can accomplish for as low as $5. Since the effects are temporary, with that amount, you can treat yourself with a body wrap regularly without worrying about the cost. One session of a spa wrap is equivalent to about 10 to 15 sessions of body wraps you can do yourself at home.

Got a Minute? Burn A Few Calories!

In this face-paced world, having to drag yourself to the gym for a workout can be, well, a drag. However, if you can spare a minute from your busy lifestyle, use it to say “yes!” to better health and a greater figure. Wondering what you can do in sixty seconds or less? Here are 6 creative ideas that prove that sometimes, it’s the little things that go a long, long way:

  1. Call your doctor and schedule a blood test. This may not have crossed your mind when thinking of little errands you could do in a minute or less, but you may as well get around to doing one soon. Dial your doctor and ask if you could come in for a blood test, particularly the one that measures your blood constituents (a test called Complete Blood Count) but more importantly one that detects levels of bad cholesterol in your body. You can use this as a baseline info on how healthy (or unhealthy) you are, prior to committing to a weight loss diet or regimen.
  2.  Read product labels. While eating your breakfast cereal in the morning, flip over the cereal carton box and look for the nutritional label as well as the ingredients list. You may be taking in too much sugar, salt or empty calories. It helps to know what nutrients are in your foods and your current favorites. That way, if you want to tweak your diet into a healthier one, you will know what to look for when choosing alternative brands and versions.
  3.  Sprinkle flax or whole grains in your breakfast cereal or yoghurt. You can make breakfast more interesting and crunchier when you put a little whole grains into your yoghurt or cereal. Whole grains could be buckwheat, flax, pure oats and the like, Throw in some seeds and nuts, and enhance natural sweetness with dried fruits. These provide good quality fiber which is needed to sweep away unfriendly fats and toxins.
  4.  Have another glass of water. You need water to cleanse your body and keep you hydrated all day long. It can be hard to move bowels and get rid of body toxins without sufficient water in the body. Also, water helps regulate your metabolism, give you clearer skin, and give you an overall feeling freshness.
  5.  Walk and talk. Walking is really the best exercise – experts say that brisk walking may be as good as a few minutes on the treadmill. Walk with a friend and chat. Talking while you physically exert effort helps you breathe in more oxygen without you knowing it.
  6.  Jog in place or do 10 jumping Jacks. Feeling tired and sluggish? Get out of your desk chair and drop down to do 10 push-ups. If no one’s looking give yourself 10 refreshing jumping Jacks, or close your eyes and job in place for a minute. This brings back the energy you need to complete your work and ups your metabolism without having you hit the gym.

How to Lose Weight When You Have Hypothyroidism

Some people who are into weight loss programs are battling with underactive thyroid problems or what we often call as hypothyroidism. In most of these cases, weight problems already exist even before a diagnosis of hypothyroidism has been reached.

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces insufficient amounts of hormones that are responsible for metabolic processes and may often lead to weight problems. Low levels of thyroid hormones can cause a number of other problems such as constipation, dry skin, poor concentration and depression.

People affected with hypothyroidism think that it would be harder to lose weight. But this is not true. What is important is you address the weight problem along with hypothyroidism. With the right measures, it is possible to lose weight and keep it away permanently.

Here are some effective tips on how to lose the extra weight when you have hypothyroidism:

Be patient. What you need is a steady weight loss. Losing weight will not be overnight. Don’t lose hope when you see insignificant weight loss. It is better to lose little weight at a time than nothing.

Exercise is the secret to increasing your metabolism leading to weight loss. Include exercise in your daily schedule. Make sure you do cardiovascular exercises with strength training. Cardio workouts can shed off the extra pounds, while strength exercises can build muscles.

Eat small meals in regular intervals. Try to break down or divide your daily calorie intake into 4 or 5 meals a day rather than consuming all the calories in 2 or 3 meals a day. This will help boost your metabolism and maintain a controlled blood sugar level.

Have a healthy diet. Along with eating small quantities in regular intervals, you should pay close attention to your diet. Eat a diet that is rich in protein so you can build strong and lean muscles. This can hasten your weight loss. Watch out on the kind of fat that you include in your diet.  Choose complex carbohydrates as these can help control your blood sugar levels. Eradicate sugar from your diet although you can eat fruits which have good sugar content. Include as much as 5 servings of fruits and vegetables in your diet daily. Keep a diet that is low in sodium. Salty food can increase your sodium levels leading to water retention.

Have an active lifestyle. Instead of taking the elevators or using the escalator at work or in the mall, try to walk short distances. This will help you a lot in your ordeal to lose weight. Keeping an active lifestyle does not mean that you will neglect exercise. Your exercise routines should stay.

Obesity Surgery Becomes Option for More People

It is a fact that one of the biggest problems that are faced by a lot of people nowadays is obesity. Because of the food that we eat, the lifestyle we choose to live, and because of the lack of sufficient information, most people are led to believe that what they do does not affect their health. And due to the growing cases of obesity all over the world, and because some cases of obesity are so severe that no exercise or medicine is enough to get rid of all of the stored fats, experts have come up with a solution called weight loss surgery.

Weight loss surgery has been the last resort of people who are extremely obese from the time it was introduced in the field of medicine up to the present. But there are some qualifications that need to be satisfied by the patient before he is accepted for surgery. First, they should have gone an extensive exercise and diet program for weight loss. And if they have failed, they will be weighed and should have BMI (body mass index) of 40 and up to qualify for the procedure. Doctors will also accept those who have a BMI of 35, provided that they have a serious health predicament which is associated with obesity like high blood pressure or obesity.

But because of the growing number of obesity cases which are caused by newly introduced substances present in the food that we eat, medical experts are finding it harder and harder to control the situation. This is why a pharmaceutical company called Allergan has proposed to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to lower their qualifications for people who are obese in order for them to be able to undergo weight loss surgery called the lap-band system. The company has proposed that the qualifications be lowered for obese people with no health problems from a BMI of 40 to 35, while those qualifications of people with obesity associated health concerns are lowered from a BMI of 35 to 30.

Based on statistics, it is reported that almost 20% of adults have BMIs ranging from 30 and 35, which is more than twice of those who have BMIs of over 35. And of that 20%, half of them have health problems associated with obesity. Experts agree that surgery is the only method where a lot of obese people can lose weight. These experts also stated that their lives can also be lengthened when they undergo weight loss surgery.

The new method called lap-band surgery is highly recommended compared to the gastric bypass surgery because it is cheaper and it can be reversed, but you can only lose up to 20% of your total weight with lap-banding which is lesser than gastric bypass. But even if this is the case, once this appeal of Allergan has been approved by the FDA, the statistics alone will tell you that the number of people who will depend on weight loss surgery would dramatically increase.

Self Hypnosis for Weight Loss Is it Effective

Self Hypnosis can be effective when it is accompanied by other weight loss regimens such as a healthy diet and regular exercise because there aren’t enough scientific studies that show a significant effect of hypnosis in weight loss. Studies showing weight loss through hypnosis lacks in findings that leads to its correlation.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a mental state often induced by another person through a series of instructions. In the early times hypnosis is seen as a person in a sleep-like state but modern research shows that undergoing hypnosis is a wakeful state with a focused attention. The subject is instructed of imaginative experiences while being induced to hypnosis. Many will picture a pendant locket being swayed in front of the subject’s face for the eyes to follow leading to a hypnotic trance called the James Braid’s Original Eye-Fixation Hypnotic Induction Method.

Hypnosis used for weight loss is not magic and will not happen instantaneously. But constant instruction to the mind to avoid eating and to engage in exercise can produce effects. You can do self hypnosis wherein you control your appetite and encourage yourself to do exercise.

Here are steps for weight loss hypnosis

  1. Lie down with your eyes closed. Try to relax the body and clear your mind.
  2. Avoid sleeping as you will need to be willfully awake for the hypnosis.
  3. Take 3 to 5 long breaths with slow pacing. Relax the body starting from your toes up to the tip of your hair.
  4. Slowly instruct yourself of ways you will do to lose weight. Suggestions will vary like “I will not eat more than 1 cup of rice at every meal”, “I love fresh fruits and vegetables”, “I will go to the gym to exercise daily”, “I will avoid junk foods” an etc.
  5. Set your body clock to do hypnosis everyday.
  6. Stay on your back and start resuming deep breaths in intervals and gradually stop the activity.

Hypnosis is effective if you will incorporate a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Hypnosis will be a good source of motivation for you to stick to your weight loss goals through adapting a healthy lifestyle. In using hypnosis you must realize that you do not need to pretend that you are thin.

Pretending and positive thinking are two different things. Accept who you are and love your body even if you are overweight. Instead of thinking that you need to lose pounds because you don’t look good and attractive try to change your mindset into losing weight to feel healthy and light. Increase awareness of what you eat and avoid overeating. Try to practice hypnosis at regular intervals in the day. Motivate yourself into getting in shape and losing those excess pounds. Be patient for results will not be quickly seen.

Hypnosis will give you the self confidence you need to go through the steps you need to take in order to lose weight and achieve your desired results.

A Guide to Buying Diet Pills

Many people are very determined to lose weight that they try all sorts of ways just to achieve their desired weight. Dieting and exercise can become frustrating for some especially if results are not very immediate. Some people will spend hours exercising in the gym and resist the temptation to eat at fast food chains all in the name of achieving the goal of a targeted weight loss. Sometimes exercise and diet is not enough to see the much wanted weight loss and this is where the help of diet pills comes into place.

Choosing the right diet pill for you should be dealt with sufficient research and consideration. There are a lot of diet pills out there that are not considered safe to use because of harmful side effects and are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. You should be wary in choosing pills that advertise weight loss in just a small amount of time and those who promise guaranteed weight loss results without the need for exercise. These diet pills will most likely turn out to be hoax. For one thing, one cannot lose weight just by diet pills alone. Contrary to common belief, diet pills cannot be effective without exercise. For an individual to lose weight in a healthy way there should be an increase in the physical activity to burn calories stored as fat from the food we eat. Only when burned calories are higher than ingested calories will weight loss be determined.

There are two types of diet pills in the market. The over the counter diet pill and those that require prescription. Most over the counter diet pills contain caffeine which makes the heart beat faster and raises the body’s metabolic rate. Some may contain herbal extracts like green tea which like caffeine increases the body’s basal metabolic rate that helps in burning fat. Prescription diet pills are more potent than over the counter diet pills. You must consult your doctor and be evaluated physically to determine if there will be drug interactions to current medical conditions. Conditions such as heart problems, kidney and liver disease will need to be considered in prescribing the right diet pill for you. The most common prescription diet pill has the ingredient called Phentermine which mimics a neurotransmitter in the brain that acts to inform the brain that the person is already full thus the urge to eat is fairly decreased.

Check for approval seal of the Food and Drug Administration before buying a diet pill. Make sure that if you have certain medical conditions to check with the doctor first before taking any diet pill available over the counter. Do not be attracted to cheap diet pills with foreign language in their labels you cannot read and understand. Check for ingredients that are harmful and should be avoided like Ephedra. This substance was a common ingredient in diet pills and was banned in 2003 because of evidence that it causes arrhythmias which can further lead to a heart attack.
