You have now started to take on the leap to a healthier you by exercising. You decide to put on that sweat shirt and sneakers to head on to the gym. Once there you start to do every exercise you can put your hands into, jumping from one equipment to the next. After working out you go home and rest, the morning after you feel a lot of pain in almost every part of your body and when you stand up a sharp pain intensifies in your lower legs. This can be an ordinary experience for someone who has only started working out but the sharp pain in your lower legs is far from being ordinary.
Workout injuries are common for people who dive into workout routines without the necessary knowledge or information to the proper workout regimen taking into consideration that there are unique workout regimens for every individual. Mostly first timers push themselves too hard which results in injury. Most injuries from heavy work out are concentrated on the lower extremities particularly in weight bearing joints hence here are some suggestions to avoid experiencing workout injuries.
- Assess your own body. Know your body’s limitations in terms of strength, endurance and stamina. Awareness in your body’s capability will avoid pushing it beyond the limits preventing injury. If you have heart problems make sure you get cleared by your doctor and seek advice on the workout regimens you need to avoid. It would be useless to work out if it will put your life in danger.
- Know the exercises applicable for you. It’s quite similar to knowing your body’s capabilities but this time consider your gender in trying out different exercises. To avoid physical injuries from working out one should take note the differences between a man and a woman. Generally men are better at exercises involving weight lifting, push ups and Nautilus machines. Women on the other hand are good in stretching exercises such as yoga, pilates and spinning.
- Seek a professional trainer. Don’t assume that you can do by yourself because you’re risking having an injury in the process. A professional trainer will know how to guide you in exercises that are best fit for your needs and strength. A trainer will guide you and suggest a pace that is right for you.
- Take it slow. If this is the first time in many years that you have actually tried a treadmill try to start slow then in time gradually increase your pace. Don’t try to do it all in one day thinking that you’ll accomplish a lot within one go. It is actually the opposite. If you get stressed out the first time, your body will be too weak not to mention is in an excruciating pain you will likely end up skipping exercise for a week.
In every activity we take part in we have to think of our safety. If you we are venturing into something new like weight lifting we need to prepare for it by gaining sufficient knowledge, seeking advice and professional help. We need to avoid being in a situation where injury can easily happen to us.

Losing weight doesn’t have to be so hard and difficult all the time. The main reason for trying to lose weight is to feel good, healthy and look better. With this outcome in mind one should start their way to losing weight with a positive outlook that it is fun and enjoyable instead of thinking of it as something that is close to impossible.
Everyone enjoys eating a scrumptious meal. It has something to do with the different array of senses in action when we savor a meal that makes the dining not just gastronomically satisfying but a whole new amazing experience as well. Most people ask how we can maintain a lean and sexy body and still enjoy eating so much. It’s easy, you just need to be creative in thinking of ways to enjoy food without the guilt of calories haunting you afterwards. Enjoy tasting the flavors and still look hot and stunningly beautiful.
Get moving.
Exercise doesn’t just involve going to the gym and hopping on to that treadmill. Go out and experience the feel of fresh air. You can go to a park or a cemetery which has evenly paved roads for you to do brisk walking or jogging with friends. You can play Frisbee or ride a bike while enjoying the scenery of trees and lush green grass. It is most enjoyable if you’re with family or friends to be able to enjoy each other’s company and share good conversations as you walk around, the best alternative to jogging alone listening to your music player.
Eat more frequently.
One doesn’t have to give up that tasty burger and fries or that ice cream around the corner and replace it with greens all the time. The key to a healthy and good looking body is eating in moderation. When we deprive ourselves of good food we only lure our minds to think of the craving even more and tendency is that we overeat when the time comes that we can no longer control that craving. To avoid overeating why not satisfy the craving with a moderate serving enough to give satiety and fulfillment. Studies shows that people who eat in small quantities frequently in a day maintain a desired weight effectively than those eating three full meals, isn’t it more fun to eat as you please and not just limiting yourself to breakfast, lunch and dinner? Just remember to eat in small quantities to avoid excessive caloric intake.
Hula hooping.
Hula hoop is a good exercise that can keep your mid section flat and toned. It is fun and enjoyable when you do it with friends and challenge them into a contest on who can hula the longest.
Jump around.
Another fun way of exercising is using the jumping rope. It is enjoyable and a good source of cardio workout. Professional boxers do jumping rope in their strength training program to maintain a strong body and fast foot work.

There are a lot of weight loss products that are made of poor standards which can harm your health. Instead of achieving your target body, you can acquire conditions that may land you to the hospital.
For a person who love to buy weight loss products or is still planning to buy, here are some of the tips on how to identify fake weight loss claims:
- A product has fake weight loss claims when it promises to give long lasting effect without the help of diet and exercise. If the product claims to give this benefit then certainly that is a fake weight loss program.
- When a certain weight loss pill or tea professes that you will still lose weight even if you are eating all those unhealthy foods in the world. No amount of weight loss product will give positive results when you eat everything that your mouth is longing to.
- There is 100% probability that a weight loss product is bogus when it asserts that you will be losing great amount of weight like 5 kilos in a week’s time. Achieving the body you want cannot be achieved the overnight so when a certain product claims that it can give that result, it is absolutely not telling the truth.
- A weight loss product is a big mock when it promises to make you thinner just by applying the product on skin without doing efforts like doing exercise or dieting.
- Do not also believe a weight loss product when it claims to offer treatment of various diseases aside from making you lose weight.
- Never purchase a product that is not approved by FDA or the agency in your country that regulates the selling of medications. When it is not approved by these agencies, then you are putting yourself at risk.
Never immediately believe on a certain weight loss product not unless you are sure that is safe to use. You only have one body and if you use medications that are unsafe, it may bring you closer to your grave rather than making you achieve the body you wanted.

Heart rate monitors is useful in tracking your heart rate when exercising. Professional athletes and health enthusiasts find a heart monitor handy in evaluating the effectiveness of their exercise regimen. For people with medical conditions particularly heart diseases, a heart monitor can help in monitoring one’s progress into recovery from a surgical procedure. It can also help assess day to day condition of the heart related to a person’s physical activity.
Heart monitors track the rate and displays it to the user. Some heart monitor shows both the actual heart rate and the desired rate zone. The device provides accurate and detailed information as opposed to manual pulse taking by the use of the fingers. The heart rate information showed by the heart monitor will help in determining if an exercise regimen is either helpful or straining. For people recovering from a heart attack or a surgical procedure of the heart a heart monitor serves its purpose by indicating the heart’s improvement and recovery. Some doctors will advise patients with delicate heart conditions to stay at a rate that their heart can tolerate and to avoid any strenuous activities that can put their health at risk. For athletes who undergo rigorous physical training a heart monitor is useful in training optimization and endurance strengthening.
A heart rate can be classified into two types, the resting heart rate and maximum heart rate. The resting heart rate can determine your fitness level and it is characterized as the number of heart beats per minute while you are at rest. The maximum heart rate on the other hand is the highest peak of heart contraction your heart can beat for one minute. Your maximum heart rate is measured individually and preferably in a clinical setting. To give a broad picture of your maximum heart rate you can use this formula.
For women: 226 minus (age) = age adjusted maximum heart rate
For men: 220 minus (age) = age adjusted maximum heart rate
This data is not accurate and only provides a general measurement of your actual maximum heart rate. Knowing your maximum heart rate is significant in relation to your anaerobic threshold when exercising. The anaerobic threshold happens when the muscles starts taking oxygen more than it can transport which causes lactic acid to accumulate. There are different target zones in which you can pattern your heart rate for optimizing your exercise regimen and determining what best fits you.
| Target Zone |
Percentage Max HR |
| Healthy Heart zone |
50% to 60% |
| Temperate Zone |
60% to 70% |
| Aerobic Zone |
70% to 80% |
| Anaerobic Zone |
80% to 90% |
| Red line Zone |
90% to 100% |
When you have acquired your maximum heart rate based on the formula above you should get the percentage of that and the resulting data will determine where you are in the target zone. The lower zones namely the healthy heart zone and temperate zones, one can exert effort longer while those in the anaerobic zone and red line zone, decreased time should be spent in exerting effort because it can lead to exhaustion of the muscles.
The benefits of using a heart monitor are geared towards prevention of injury to a person. Patients recovering from a heart surgery or medical condition can use a heart monitor to determine drastic changes in their heart rate that can complicate their medical condition or worsen their health. However it can also help in the assessment of the heart’s recovery and return to its normal rate. Heart monitors are available in many types. Some come with straps and an ECG monitor attached closed to the chest while some come in wrist band types.
One disadvantage in the use of heart monitors is the tendency to solely depend on it that we often ignore other signs and symptoms given by the body. Heart rate is just one assessment tool for overall health and wellness. We have to monitor for other vital signs that can determine the overall condition of the heart and state of health of a patient. Consult your doctor on how to assess for other signs and symptoms especially if you have a medical condition or any cardiovascular diseases.

It has been emphasized many times that we are what we eat. People who are conscious with healthy food firmly believe the eating right is a responsibility of every individual in keeping the body healthy and free of illness and diseases. A healthy lifestyle advocates longer life span and an improved quality of life.
The foods that we eat matter greatly in our body’s overall health state. Most foods that are made readily made available to us are products of countless food processing which takes away the natural nutrients present in them instead they are replaced with chemical additives and preservatives. Imagine a canned corned beef that contains a lot of artificial chemicals just to keep the beef from disintegrating for a number of years to be stored in our shelves and be eaten. Don’t you ever wonder how long has the beef from the cow been dead and immersed in chemicals since it was killed?
Some foods are thought of as harmful and increase the risk of cancer. Cancer is a terrifying condition wherein the body cells mutate endlessly and attacks the normal cells of the body. Cancer is a thief that comes unnoticed in the night and will rob a person of his life slowly. Most cancer patients do not show any signs of illness for a long period and is only diagnosed with the dreaded disease when it has become worse and irreversible. It pains a person both physically and emotionally knowing that the disease has no cure and that death is imminent.
To lower the risk of cancer people are slowly increasing their awareness in the quality of food that they eat. Toxins from the food we eat can accumulate and cause the development of diseases and illnesses which also increases the risk of cancer. Most foods that are available in the market are mass produced. The demand for produce such as vegetables and fruits are achieved by using conventional agricultural processes like inclusion of additives and fertilizers in the soil, spraying of insecticides and plant vitamins to increase the speed of growth and make the produce bigger in size. These added chemicals may be harmful for individuals and may increase the risk of cancer.
However food grown organically is free of chemicals and additives and it does not undergo any process that speeds up the growth of natural produce. This is the main reason why many people are now considering organic foods over those that are not. Although organic foods are pricier than the normal ones that are not grown organically, it boasts of health benefits far worthy of the added cost to your budget. If you switch to an organic diet you are eliminating the chemicals that are potentially harmful to the body thus lessening the risk of cancer. Organic foods are rich with nutrients that are intact and potent which are very helpful in fighting infections and diseases in the body. It nourishes a person leaving him feeling refreshed, strong and energized. Encourage your loved ones to eat organic foods to lessen the risk of a dreadful disease that can take people whom you care for the most away from you.
