Beating Depression with Exercise

Life is not always perfect. And whether we like it or not, we will always encounter problems even if we try our best to avoid having them. These problems can be from the workplace, the community we are in, and relationships with people close to you. Whenever these problems arise most of us feel depressed especially if everything seems do hard for us to bear. Some even lose their sanity and breakdown when problems hit them.

All of us have different ways in copingwith depression. Having ways in handling stress and depression is very important to function well in our everyday dealings. Others cope with depression by eating their favorite food like chocolates to make them feel better, some go the spa to feel relaxed and rejuvenated, there are also those that go on trips to keep them away from the problems they are facing, and majority just sleep to suppress all the negative emotions they are feeling.

All of those methods are good in beating depression especially because all of us have different ways in coping. But one of the best ways in handling depression is by doing exercise. Most of us may not think that it is possible, but in actuality exercise is very effective for people who have depression to feel better. Here are some of the reasons why exercise is the best in beating depression:

  • Exercise help normalize the cortisol hormone which is known as the stress hormone in the brain. Too much of this stress hormone can lead to high blood pressure and high blood sugar levels. With exercise, this hormone is kept in a normal level so that it can’t affect the body in a negative way.
  • Exercise helps boost self esteem especially if one achieves his goal like walking 2 kilometers in a given time. But in the long run, a person who is depressed because of the way he looks especially those who are obese will eventually have the body that he always wanted because of exercise. Exercise is really a self esteem booster.
  • Exercise will help a person battling from depression to socialize and meet a lot of people. In this way he will be able to ease the feeling of being alone especially now that he has new found friends to share life with.
  • There are also people who are depressed because of them having poor state of health. But with exercise, their goal of becoming healthier individuals will be materialized making them beat their depression.
  • Exercise helps people find balance and contentment. It helps the brain to function well especially when dealing with emotions so those who exercise regularly handles stress better as compared to others who don’t so depression is prevented.
  • Exercise is good for the body and when one exercise it is like hitting two birds with one stone. It is not just your mental health that gains benefit from exercise, your body does too.

So the next time there are problems that bother you, just exercise to beat all the negativities that haunt your inner self.
