Athletes Foot Relief

Athletes foot can be one of the most irritating ailments you can experience. The relentless itching and discomfort caused by athletes foot can cause some people much despair. And let's face it, it is a huge inconvenience. Having athletes foot can cause many people to dread going out for fear their feet begin itching and they can't do anything about it. In addition to be highly irritating and often highly painful, athletes foot can also be highly unsightly, leaving the feet looking scaly, cracked and bleeding, red, inflamed and often sporting hideously sore pustules. Doesn't sound too nice, does it?

Athletes foot is caused by an out of control fungal infestation. Whilst we all have a certain amount of this fungus present on the surface of our skin, it is usually quite harmless as it only feeds on the dead skin cells, and you wouldn't see any of the affects of this fungi with a naked eye.

The problems start when an excess amount of fungus develops, usually helped along by ourselves, unwittingly, and the fungus permeates the skin somehow. Once this happens, the fungus spreads more rapidly and begins to do actual damage to our skin, which as mentioned, can be highly painful and highly noticeable.

The best way to ensure you don't help this fungus to grow is to keep your feet as dry as possible, particularly after a bath. Wear breathable shoes, and change your socks more regularly after washing you feet.

If you find you have developed athletes foot, don't panic, it is highly treatable. Simply visit your G.P. and pick up some prescribed medication. Alternatively, you can go to a good pharmacy and purchase some off-the-shelf anti-fungal cream which is specially designed for treating athletes foot.

Unfortunately, until the fungal infection begins to clear up there isn't much which can be done in the way of athletes foot relief. As the infection begins to subside, the severity of irritation and pain will obviously subside along with it, and this is about the best you can hope for.
